Abstract
Maharah al kalam is the skill of speaking in Arabic. However, not all Arabic students master and apply maharah al kalam. Based on observations, it was found that there were some students who still did not want to use Arabic in daily speaking, and there were still some students who dared to use Indonesian and regional languages. In the boarding school environment, the Language Section of the Wali Songo Ngabar Islamic Boarding School through activities arranged by the language section intends to facilitate and also encourage students to always use Arabic and of course also to improve the four Arabic language skills, especially maharah al kalam. This study aims (1) To determine the role of the language section as a facilitator in improving speaking skills. (2) To find out the language barriers in improving speaking skills and how to overcome them. This type of research uses a qualitative research approach with the type of case study. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, interviews and documentation. Analysis of the data used using the concept of Milles and Hubberman, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on data analysis it was found that (1) The role of the language department as a facilitator in improving the speaking skills of the students of the Wali Songo Ngabar Ponorogo Islamic boarding school, among others: 1) Giving mufrodat to students in grades 1 to 4 and 3 intensively, this activity is usually carried out on Wednesdays , Saturday and Sunday mornings, and repetitions related to mufrodat that have been memorized every night after maghrib or isya prayers, this activity of giving mufrodat itself aims to increase the memorization of students related to mufrodat which will have an impact on the process of improving speaking skills, 2 ) Implementation of muhadatsah activities, muhadatsah activities themselves are usually carried out on Fridays, which usually alternate with activities to watch together short films in Arabic, and for this muhadatsah activity itself is carried out after dawn prayers, this muhadatsah activity aims to train students' maharah kalam , 3) Implementation the activity of watching short films in Arabic, which aims to hone students' listening and speaking skills, 4) The installation of language magazines, this wall magazine itself is divided into two wall magazines, namely the wall magazine which is placed on the mosque page which contains news or articles in Arabic and the wall magazine which is placed in front of the students' room which contains Arabic and English mufrodat, 5) Giving prizes for students who are diligent or excel in language. (2) Language barriers in improving speaking skills and how to overcome them, including: 1) There are still some students who dare to use Indonesian and also local languages, 2) Lack of good examples from senior students which of course has a huge impact on new students' interest in speaking Arabic. The ways to overcome this are: 1) Giving punishment to students who violate the language which aims to provide a deterrent effect to students who violate it, 2) Providing language mading facilities that aim to increase the spirit of language in the Wali Songo Ngabar Islamic Boarding School students.
