THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING (CTL) METHOD IN TEACHING DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH AT MA MA'ARIF KLEGO PONOROGO

Abstract

Writing is not only about skills, but also about how a writer can encourage or expand thoughts and ideas, and how to motivate oneself in communicating with others through writing. CTL is a method that involves students finding material and relating it to actual conditions. Language features are very complex and broad topics because language features are very important in a writer life. This language features consists of verbs, adjectives, and tenses. A descriptive paragraph is a collection of several sentences that convey a different message from one person, place, or thing. This study aims (1) to determine the application of the CTL method in teaching descriptive paragraph that focused on language features, (2) to find out the advantages of teaching descriptive paragraph that focused on language features by applying the CTL method, and (3) to determine the disadvantages of teaching descriptive paragraph which focused on language features by implementing the CTL method. This study was designed using a qualitative approach and a qualitative descriptive design. The location of this research was carried out at MA Ma’arif Klego, and the writer examined the science of the tenth-grade IPA MA Ma’arif Klego, totaling 18 students. The data collection procedure used consisted of interviews, observations, tests, and documentation. Results obtained by the writer during the study, the writer obtained data stating that there were very significant changes experienced by the students after using the CTL method in writing lessons and the student’s language features experienced a remarkable improvement compared to before using CTL. However, in using the CTL method there are several advantages and disadvantages of each. To prevent failure in using the CTL method, teachers must first learn the use of the CTL method.
